Default Winter stuff to do

Winter is here in the northeast. For guys who like summer weather only its the equivalent of being locked up.

In the garage I go and I comb thru the bike from a season of riding to find all the stuff that needs attention.

1) I need to pull the bat wing and replace one of my vertical batwing supports. I'll probably just replace both. A few new cracks on top of past repairs is why.

2) I installed a Dakota digital volt meter but cheated and just tapped into some 18 gauge wire. I should have run a #6 or #8 back to the battery to get correct voltage. Time to fix that.

3) probably pull rear wheel for new tire. Not bald but not too much left on it.

4) need front brakes both calipers. Did rear a few months back.
5) might go over all connections I attached to battery post and redo them. Some are from 09 and are probably in need of a fresh connector.
6) detail bike. Every nook and cranny.

7) might change all blinker bulbs..approaching 6 years old. Can't hurt
8) love to replace j&m rockers and amp with something else...something that hits hard. Don't know what that is. Gotta read some ultra nuts threads
9) recently pulled primary so all in there is ok.
10) what else? I have 40k

My Limited left for the dealer today, in their trailer. My Heritage has been at the shop for weeks following an accident. Very odd not to have a bike or two in the garage. When I get them back I will have several changes made, including lowering the Limited and a few nice comfort items. I would rather ride than wrench. In the winter, I just pay to have things improved.

Man, I feel for you guys up north most of the time...I'm able to ride year round.

Other times I realize if I had some downtime I would have my bikes more like I want them to be...but it's hard to choose doing optional work on the bike when I could be riding it.

Lots of maintenance issues conveniently done during a non riding period. I'd be inclined to change the shock and fork oils. You can read up on tuning them with various oil viscosities. Might consider fork spring change if so inclined. Brake fluid flush. Clean caliper pistons. Clean headlight lens. Lubricate cables and levers. Shop winter swap meets for cheap treasures. Stay ready to ride on warm days.

You didn't say they had been done so cam chain tensioners would've been on my list at 40,000 mi.
