The secret to wrapped pipes not rotting is to never let them sit wet.Any time you wash the bike or it gets rained on you need to run it for 5-10 min or go for a short ride to thoroughly dry the wrap.If you don't they will rot faster than non wrapped pipes mainly because they will stay wet longer.The Thunderheader in my sig pic was wrapped a couple times the first time I didn't keep it dry and it rusted quite a bit, the second time I made an effort to keep it dry and several years later when I decided I was tired of the wrapped look I took off the wrap and surprise, no rust.Also, having used both the wrap and heat shields on that pipe I can tell you the heat shields were more effective at controlling the heat you feel than the wrap. However, I think a combination of both would be even better.
