So that was your only choice, let it idle for 45 minutes?
If you get into a slow crawl on the Interstate what else are you gonna' do?
A couple of years back here on I 85 with 9 miles between exits and no crossover into the oncoming lanes (divided highway here,) you walk the bike, feathering the first gear as necessary,
My '00 RG idled for over an hour on that trip and it was August in NC (over 90 that day.) It performed fine (tho' I was listening to it pretty intensely too.)
If the newer bikes can't handle that heat build up then the aftermarket fans are a no brainer IMO.
Sometimes you're going to get into a situation like that.
Yeah, idling an air cooled motor for 45 minutes is a bad idea. I live in Washington, DC and we have some nasty traffic. I would have immediatley headed for the side of the road and then moved along slowly -- even if it's illegal. Twice I've done that and encountered cops. I stopped and explained that my air-cooled bike would fry if I let it idle (ignoring the obvious alternative of shutting it off). Both times I was waived on.
Yep. Same here. It may **** off some people, but screw em'. I ain't messin' up my bike.
