I had my crank welded up when I did mine, also put a better clutch in it. I'm very happy with my build. 114hp/114tq. I ran it at the track and ran a 12.3 @ 120mph.

I hear a lot of people talk about having the crank welded, but have also heard it's not really necessary for this build. I guess it's a piece of mind thing. I'm sure that a lot more money to have done though.
I would at least check crank run-out to decide if the crank needs attention. .004 would be border line for me. If ya need to do the crank going to 110/113 is a great option.
At the least do SE cam bearings and non-Harley lifters (comp 850s or S&S if ya have extra cash ya don't care about). Maybe some .030 head gaskets (them cams like compression). The tune will make the big difference.
