Default Exhaust port cleaning

Am in the process of doing a cam replacement, and when I removed the exhaust pipes, the ports are really disgusting, especially the rear one. How do you clean out the old ones and how clean does it need to be? Pictures would be nice. Thanks

Hold the throttle at about 2 grand and squirt water in the intake. Worked well on many cars ive done that to.

how many miles on the motor? if its really really bad, you may have some valve guide/seal issues, but I'm thinking its not all that bad. don't worry about it. As long as you can seal the pipes up to the head, You'll be fine. if in fact, the valves have a lot of carbon on them, you might think to remove the heads and inspect the guids and seals. what year bike?

Not gonna happen since the cams are sitting on my bench. Do you need to position the piston below or above the opening? Do you steel wool or a brass brush or electric drill and wire brush? I how do you clean it out?

I think I would just let them be. Maybe wipe out the excess. Any pics?

I have almost 49000 miles on it. My exhaust looks like it melted along the edges, but that might be the gasket. Never been here before so not sure what I am seeing is normal or a problem. It's a 2009 Ultra Classic. How do you clean it before re-installing the exhaust pipes?

I took this one, see if you can see it ok. If not, I'll try to get a closer picture tomorrow.

No worries, run some seafoam in your fuel once in awhile. Those ports look OK to me.
