I'm getting my 06 ultra in Feb. Me and my wife are both large people so I want to get a relocation kit for the touring pack to set it back a few inches for some extra room. The salesman at the dealer told me that Kuryakyn stuff is junk and recommended original HD items, just wondering what the general opinion is? Is he just trying to generate sales for the parts department or is the stuff that much inferior? Any recommendations on other relocation kits?
How do the Kury and H-D items compare in price? It's the season of good will and your dealer may do you a decent discount. My local dealer is doing a 20% discount on 20th Dec for all parts and accessories ordered. Just a thought!
I made a plate to be able to move the tp back or forward but george anderson make a relocation kit if kury doesn't. I have bought a ton of kury stuff some not so good some awesome and of course your hd guy is going to say that he works for HD.
I have the Kury one and really like it. It will allow you to slide the tourpack back up to 3"s. Works as advertised, easy to install, and is not a piece of crap. Very well made.
I used the Kuryakyn kit on mine. While mounting it, I thought to myself "This is dumb. All a guy would need is a plate with offset holes to go in between the Tourpak and its support rail." Lo and behold, there's a guy out there that offers exactly that and it's half the cost. A couple of guys I knew used it and loved it. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me remember the name of the guy or what his kit is called. I'll see if I can find it.
I think one nice feature of "one of" the Kury kits is that it's adjustable via finger-lock controls. Others are "adjustable", but require moving the mounting bolts to different holes.
A few years back I got one of the Kury Tpak relocators and have been happy with it. I needed to make some mods to it so that it could:
1. raise the TPak such that my police saddle bags could open
2. move the TPak forward such that it could be used as the rider backrest on a solo seat
I detailed the mods here. To be honest, once I got the TPak in the right location I have never moved it. I'd suggest one of the relocation plates that are available. Search this forum for George Anderson.
I found a George Anderson kit for sale from a member and got it and love it. But I also have machinist friends that did some designs of their own to make adaptor brackets for theirs after seeing what its like to have more room on mine. As for being "Adjustable" 99% of those who move it back just want to make more room so adjusting it isn't an issue.
