Howdy,
I have seen folks running 160/60/18 rear tires on the 06 FLHX's. My rear wheel is a HD Roadwinder and the chrome is flaking. I was thinking aboutreplacing it withan aftermarket smoothie such as a RCand a wider tire.If I use asolid wheel it willlook ok with the current HD Roadwinder on frontand if I later decide to put a 21 inchmag on the front it willlook ok too.I would go back with a HD smooth rear wheel but they only come in 3 inch wide. I want to stick with a 16 inch wheel because I am not for sure I want the 21 on front or not. With that all being said my question is, if these guys can run the 160/60/18 on the rear what is the largest wheel tire combo can I run on a 16 inch wheel. Bear in mind I am prepared to use an aftermarket rear so I can use a wider than 3 inch if that helps.
You can squeezea 150 on the 16" rim, seen people do that.
Using a new rim say a 4.25" wide rim your kinda stuck with a160 because anything bigger will rub the fender....
That is what I had in mind, the 160/80/16 met. It would look nice with either the 16 Roadwinder that is on front now or a 21 up front. Do you have any idea what the clearance is like with the 160 on the rear. I know I would have more clearance with the 4.25 inch wheel than the 3.5 but I have looked the net and cant find a 4 or 4.25 rear wheel, seems to jump from 3.5 to 5 or 5.5 with all brands.
Took the bags off this afternoon and measured mine. Widest portion of side wall to fender on mine with a Harley 16x3 and a 140/90B16 Metzeler was 1/2" on drive side and 3/4" on brake side. Tells me that a 160 should fit, but its going to be close on the drive side. Ideally, you would shift the rear wheel to the brake side by 1/8" to center by using a 1/8" longer hub on the drive side and 1/8" shorter on the brake side.
