Default Windshield Height ?

First post here. Just got my new 07 Ultra after trading in my 95 Dyna. OMG what a sweet ride. She's Fire Red & Black Pearl and love it. What a huge change from the Dyna. My only issue is the windshield height. It seems that the top is right at that point in my sight that gets in the way at 100 feet or sodown the road. I might put a shorter one on ( maybe smoked ). What are your thoughts and what size did you put on? Also, does it put you in the wind by lowering it much? I do like the fact that I'm not getting blown around like on the Dyna. Thanks for your responses.

First, you want it to be at the bridge of your nose, so your line of sight is above, especially in rain..... But, you need to consider possible changes... are you going to be changing your seat height? [][:-]

P.S. My little 4 year old helper thinks you needed these two faces.

Most like to look over the windshield....2 to 3 inches. Some like to look through it......but not me. The wind is not an issue on a FLHTCU unless you get a very short windshield. Put a peice of masking tape on the level you'd like to see over and measure the width. Lots of windshields out there both HD and aftermarket.

I always cut my own windshields down. Its a very easy procedure if your mechanically inclined and have the right tools. Go to the Tech section of this forum and you'll find a pretty good play-by-play on how to do it. I think I took my Ultra windshield down about 2 & 1/2" so that I can see over it, but such that the wind goes over my head. The tools you'll need are: jigsaw with fine tooth blade, some poster board, making tape, a sharpie, a palm sander, and several grades of sandpaper

I'm six foot. I look through a 15 inch in the winter and look over a 10 inch in the summer.

I'm about 5'11" and the first thing I did when I picked up my Ultra is swap out the stock 12" for the HD 9". With the stock 12"I was trying to look through the top part of the windshield and kept dealing with the top edge creating a line. I find the HD windshields are not as optically clear as the windshield on my Gold Wing was. I have no problems with wind or rain. The are many options, good luck and congrats on the new ride.

[sm=sleeping.gif]I'm 6'4" and my windshield is just below my line of sight. Thought I would have a hard time getting used to it....not a all....a few rides and everything was fine...I don't think I would want to change mine. Give it a try for a while.

I'm 5'11" stock seat. I put a 7" cee baileys on after trying the stock shield, a 10" and a 8". I find the 7 just perfect, I like to look over but it still kick the wind over my head. Also using the front fork baffel and the chrome fork wind deflectors.

Firstly Stitch welcome to the Bagger side of the forum.
I'm 5'9" and I look under the stock shield by 3" , I like it when it's really cold out.
Keep in mind a tall shield can be irritating when it's foggy or raining.
I also have a 9" and it's just a shade to tall , so I'll go with an 8" this summer.
I like the visibility and air flow when it gets warm out.
Just keep in mind what you want and need , and you'll find a height you like after riding a while.
Lots of good shield makers out there , read a bunch and you'll see what you want to run.
Good riding.
Mick

I put an 8" Clearview with a curved lip, on myGlide. I'm 6'2" and it keeps my head outa the wind. But I tend to crouch a little. If you sit straight up, a 9.5" would probably do you fine, even if you're tall.
