2014 Street Glide, slip-ons, a/c, fp3; I've had it pegged on several occasions. It takes it a bit to get there, but it will cruise 105 with no problems at all.
Believe it or not, this ^^ really makes a difference.
Acceleration is the battle between torque and weight, but top speed is more a battle between horsepower and wind resistance, and the higher the rpm the more hp you've got. Lower gear is better.
As far as blowing something up...naah. If you've had your bike on a dyno for a 6th gear pull, redline is around 160 mph and it didn't blow up. It won't blow up at 120.
Once a stock motor hits 90 mph or so, things start to happen much more slowly, so as most have mentioned, it takes a pretty long run to get past 100 and keep climbing.
07 st. glide stage one, 100 no problem, 101, looked like it was going to take awhile so I let off. good thing to , 3 deer walked out 1/4 mile down the road. I said thank you lord and I don't do that anymore!
kroozeabout.
Before adding my cams it was hard to break 100, but I was always trying in 6th gear.
Added 48 cams and now can break 100 easily but 110 it just seems to get stuck in a time warp.
I was able to hit 115 with no wind and on a slight downhill coming across I-10 once.
Ill have to try leaving in 5th gear and see what happens. I think I did try that but it did not sound very good at all.
