Street Glides are awesome. But, I do love my Road King for its versatility. There are plenty of aftermarket fairings out there (including us very soon) that will bolt right up with all the stereo you want. You can take it off. You can use the big shield. Change things up. That's what I love about mine.
I went from a street glide to road king, I could not get used to the batwing.
Really?
What's to get used to?
I went from a softail to a SG and did not think there was anything to get used to.
Having tunes is one of the reasons why I decided to get the SG too and yes stereo in SG has been upgraded too.
I went from an 08 RK to a 12 SG, I enjoy the SG more with the newer frame, my stage 1 96 was pretty peppy a 96 is worth a look in a newer frame
2012 and up the 103 was standard in a SG
2011 you could get a 96 or the power pack 103.
If funds allow go newer, if not enjoy what you have, life is too short!
I went from a 04 RK to a 14 SGS. Had my RK for 6 yrs and spent a ton of money making it look like a SG and making it run like I wanted. Bought my new one about a month ago and haven't got to ride it much but it I believe it runs as good or better than my "pumped up" 88 ci did. You can see my RK in my avatar and my SG in my signature
you buying outright or making payments on the trade up?
i have under 1k in my road glide conversion right now. with stereo and things ill be at 1500 for everything. i recouped a few hundred selling my stock road king take offs too
i would love a new bike. but i sure dont like long term payments
I think the feedback you'll get is going to be biased by the bike that the person replying has... Nothing wrong with that, but they obvious got, or think, that's the best bike for THEM.
It's your money, it's your bike. If a batwing and radio is important get the SG. If not that one wait till you find the deal that works for you. Trust me...there's always another good deal out there...just have to hunt it down and be ready to deal, based on your bottom line net price.
Honestly, the only time I've ever turned on the radio on my SG is when I'm working on it, one way or another in the garage. I enjoy the styling but at 80 mph on the Interstate you ain't gonna hear a damn thing without pushing 500 or so watts and around town I don't like drawing attention to myself. I prefer to hear the motor humming along 'cause I'm oldskool like that.
I have an '07 King, & I think it is the best year. I can't really tell the difference with the '09 frame, but the one MAJOR thing that would keep me from buying an '08 or later touring bike is I cannot get used to the TBW no matter how hard I try. It feels "disconnected" from the motor, & the "lag" drives me crazy. Which, IMHO, cancels out any benefits from the '09 frame & 103 motor. Your '07 King is worth between 10-11K, depending on condition, mileage, & add ons. Personally, I can't stand fairings. They look silly, & take away from your view of the road. Big rattling hunks of plastic just waiting to break a strut. And, as far as stereos,GPS,bluetooth, and all that other useless crap that takes away from the essence of motorcycling.---well you know how I feel about that. I wanna hear my pipes. Otherwise, you might as well ride rice.
I wouldn't trade my '07 King for any new bike, except maybe a Deluxe. But that's just me.

An outstanding tuner that knows his/her way around the ECU can get rid of the so-called throttle lag that so many complain about.
