So I have a 2007 Roadking peace officer bike. I REALLY want a radio and fairing. What are you alls thoughts on adding a fairing or trading for a SG?? If I trade I know I want at least an 09 for the frame change. And maybe an 11 for the 103? Would you trade or dump the money into the 07? I mean it would kinda come down to what all am I gaining. A radio, years, etc. How much can you expect per year? $2000/yr? How much better is the 103 than the 96? With the frame change its longer, wider back tire, and another gallon of fuel. Anything else? And for the 11 with 103 That's it right? How much money would it cost to make my 07 equal to an 11 with a 103? And would never have the longer frame, right? And I've been told its night and day better ride.
If you take a new Street glide out for a test ride you will ask yourself why you didn't do it sooner. I tested a new Road king, An Ultra, and a Street Glide Special, and all three were great. But for me, the Street Glide Special for 2015 was a no brainer. Has the fairing, 6.5 boom Box, Navigation, Blue tooth phone set up, the 103CI. And it comes standard that way on the Special model. Just my $.02 opinion here but If it were my decision, I'd forget the fairing idea and go new. You will never recoup the cash you put out for a new fairing set up anyway, if you sell or trade, so why bother? Take that cash and use it for a new ride.Of course the economics have to be right, but who cares after you get on it.
I had a 07 Road King Classic and sold it and bought a 2010 Street Glide and am very happy I did. Like you I wanted the tunes and have upgraded the stereo. The difference between the 07 and the new frame is quite a bit. I have never missed my King once since trading.
well that's the problem. When I bought my 07 RK I almost bought a NEW 12 SG and the wife (now EX wife) didn't want to spend that much money. Looking back I should have just got what I wanted!!!! I hadn't rode a SG until last fall I did a demo ride with my daughter on a 14 SG (only about 20 miles) but I liked it. Yes I am going to take a bath on mine Im sure, but to upgrade motor to 103 and fairing I feel Im looking at $4k plus. And then the years and miles. That's what Im wandering, whats years and miles worth? Mine is 07 with 20k miles. to a newer bike or new. I work at the Ford dealer and we say $2k per year. so an 07 to a 14 is $14k??? plus miles? They offered me $8000 for my bike. Is that about right?
They offered me $8000 for my bike. Is that about right?
Is a Peace Officer bike a special bike or a retired police bike? A retired police bike is worth about $7000 and a strait 07 RK is worth between $8000 to $9000. I think the $8000 offer this time of year is a very good offer. If you want more, you may have to sit on it a while.
I have the 2014 Street glide. I am very happy with it. I glanced at the road king, but there was no batwing or radio, It makes the ride so much more enjoyable. +1 vote for the street glide. However its up to you what you want and your taste in style.
I went from a 2011 Road King to the 2015 Road Glide. I really liked my Road King but I had the bosses OK to get a new bike so I jumped on that opportunity. That said I took a test ride on a 2014 Road King, 2014 Street Glide and a 2015 Road Glide the day I bought my new bike. The power increase and handling changes were very evident in all. I wanted a newer look and the GPS and stereo that the SG and RG offered. I also have short legs so the 12" VS 13" rear shocks made me more flat footed.
What sold me on the Road Glide was the room you have between the rider and the dash. Having rode a Road King you get used to having lots of room up front. The Streetglide's dash seemed too close (270 lbs. doesn't help either). And you see so many Streetglide's on the road these days I wanted something different.
I had an 04 RoadKing which I loved, traded it in on a 2010 StreetGlide which I love even more. Still miss the classic look of the RK but the SG wins hands down with the protection offered by the fairing, the stereo, and the fact that you don't have to take your eyes off the road to glance at the speedo/gas gauges.
