Yeah I kinda have my bike set up lie I want. I added 13" Prime Apes, cruise, Rineharts. It isn't a COP bike, Its a Peace Officer bike, which is really just stickers!!!! I really wanted a bigger back tire, I think. And I'm liking the bigger front wheels, though I have an 18" SG wheel for mine just haven't put it on yet. I can add a fairing with tunes for around a grand. I'm still making payments on mine as Ive had it 2 1/2 yrs. I was thinking if Im making payments it might as well be on something newer?? Mine only has 20k on it as it was one of those low mile bikes when I bought it. I thought I wanted to be able to pull the WS and have that old school look, which I still love, but I guess as I get older I don't care for the wind so much!! lol Yes my 96" runs good, but I assume the 103" is better.

Getting the want for a newer bike nevrr goes away, if your locked in on payments, trade..... you wont want another bike for a while and your already comfy with the payments.

In the world of motorcycles it seems you always want what you dont have, its a sickness really. Im looking for the cure.

Either be content with what you have or trade up. Throwing money at that bike is a waste.

Had you said "I love this bike and will keep it forever - how can I improve it?" I would say do the 103. But you didn't. And your $4000 for a build and fairing are low I'm thinking.

Either way, you're throwing money at a deprecating asset. Which bike will make you happy? At the end of the game you won't lie there thinking how much you enjoyed the money you saved. With today's low interest rates, financing a new bike is a good option.

Me as a former '06 RKC owner got frustrated with the less storage when going on long distance trips where the '09 with 450 engineering changes came out and looked at an Ultra that got me convinced less than an hour.

1. More storage
2. Bigger motor
3. 6 speed tranny
4. Bigger rear tire
5. Fairing to protect me from f-ugly weather or bug moments.
6. The color I loved. Flame Blue Pearl and Brilliant Silver.

Absolutely very happy with my Ultra. I poured thousands and thousands of dollars into the bike which was a waste of money, but Ultra got me smiling every time I ride it.

Not one sorry man yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I just upgraded a couple of months ago from a 03 RKC to a 2014 SGS.

The RK had EVERYTHING I could do to make it like that years CVO bike (103, Cams, Exhaust, heated grips, chrome everywhere, etc) a few years later I added a SE 6 speed when that became available, all the time trying to make my bike into a "New" bike without taking the plunge. We toured cross country a few times and I even had a King Tour Pack in addition to the Leather tour pack for longer trips. You name it and I had it on that bike..........it all changed when I test drove a friends 13 SG with the 103 and just knew I wouldn't get there with the RK no matter how much $$ I put into it.

Fast forward 2 months and now riding a 2014 SGS, bought used for $20K with 2K miles. Already had some accessories installed and a 5 year Harley warranty. Have now spent ~$4K on new seats, pipes, tuner, etc..... I can use my old tourpack (new bracket required) and have already had 1 1K ride to ring it out a little.......needless to say this thing rocks (except the POS Infotainment system) and the riding experience is so different I just can't describe it........I am very happy I made the change

Now my dilemma is selling the almost perfect 03 anniversary (silver and black) RK or hoping that it will be a classic someday and strip it down for an around the town "Bar Bike".......Hmmm?

It's your money, it's your bike. If a batwing and radio is important get the SG. If not that one wait till you find the deal that works for you. Trust me...there's always another good deal out there...just have to hunt it down and be ready to deal, based on your bottom line net price.

My 2 cents. That is all.
Agree. Those of us that ride Road Kings don't like and don't want fairings and don't like and don't want radios. But there is nothing wrong with you wanting them. It's all a matter of personal preference. If you want a fairing and a radio, by most accounts the 2015 SGs are very good bikes.

Go test ride one, I hate fairing bikes. You may find you don't like them either. Or you may love them. But definitely get the 103 if your budget allows.

Yep, that pretty much says it all.

It's one thing to mod a bike to fit your personal taste, but to spending money to make it new is throwing money away because you won't get it back. If you accept making payments on a motorcycle, then make payments on the one you want.

That's a fact right there.

Absolutely. And one thing I forgot to point out in my post above - my advice was based on an apples to apples concept. It wasn't even factoring changing to a Street Glide, which is a whole different matter and purely based on what the desire of the owner is. In other words, one can not argue with someone wanting to go from a Road King to Street Glide, or vice-versa. However, one could argue that throwing a lot of money at an old bike is foolish.
