Had just installed the stock pipes and Hippiechick had gone witha girlfriend to a ladies Bible study, so the daughter (21) hopped on the back and we rode about 20 miles or so just enjoying the radio and the wind.
Pulled up to an intersection on a hill and stopped. Wanted to turn right, but a car came out of nowhere and I just simply wasnt ready. The bike went over on the right side and laid there really ugly looking on the engine guard and bag guard.
A guy in a SUV stopped and put on his flashers and then helped me get it back upright. No one hurt. Only a very slight scratch on the chrome of the engine guard. Fresh asphalt there, so it was kinda on the soft side.
Dang, that thing is heavy.
Anyway, I tryed to crank her up and she never would catch. They dude who helped me suggested turning off the ignition and starting again. I did and she fired right up. I will have to remember that one if I ever drop Blackie again. ( I hope never)
All is well. Pride hurt a little. Bike, Daughter and the old fart are all OK
When you drop the bike it goes into tilt mode. You have to cycle from off and back to on to reset the tilt. I did something similar a few weeks ago and came through without a scratch.
I dropped mine 2 Saturdays ago.Wife was on back, and I was doing a U turn at the end of a road that was kinda hilly.I was bummed but its only a scratch on the drop bars so I can live with that I guess.
My wife freaked because she thought I weas gonna freak.LOL.Picking it up was fairly easy actually, even though I was on the side of a hill, and had to lift it up the hill.I was surprised that I could do it so easy by myself.
I guess some of that weightlifting over the years has helped.LOL.
UGH....these are horror stories....dropping the glide is not in the plans....but you never know about the other guy. I can just take the precautions and hope for the best. Glad everyone was ok.
Droped mine the other day was moving it in the garage and the dog distracted me. Didn't realize the jiffy wasn't all the way down and when I leaned it, well it kept going.[] Luckily I was armed with some hints on how to pick it back up from this forum so was able to right it by myself.
Sorry to hear you dropped the bike, but very glad to hear that you and your daughter are OK, and that the damage was minimal. I'll have to remember the "tilt" reset so if ( and when) I drop mine, I'll know how to reset it. Very nice of the guy in the SUV to help you right it.
BTW, how do you like having stock pipes back on? Plan on doing mine this weekend.
You call your Bike "Blackie", I call mine "Visitation". That way when the pastor calls and I am out riding, my wife can truthfully tell him "Ken is out on visitation!" Keeps me in his good graces.
