For a more civilised yet effective alternative consider a SuperTrapp Supermegs, as below. A 2-into-1 will give improved low/mid range torque, in the rev range we mostly ride, not necessarily more power. Mine also gives a much smoother and nicer ride.
My son had a Thunder Header on a 1992 Lowrider Convertible FXR and it was so loud that you could not ride behind him. Any time he went through a parking lot he was likely to set off two or three car alarms. Not a fan.
I have one on my 2000 Heritage 88b engine with carb. Love the deep, throaty sound and I immediately noticed a "seat of the pants" increase in low end torque and power. I originally was running it with just a SE cleaner and jetted carb, but later added a cam as well. It has no problem keeping up with the 96 and 103s.
In fact I am so happy with it I purchased a Pro Pipe for my '13 RGU. However, I haven't had a chance to install it yet so I can't give you review on how it works on the RGU. I will be running it with a SE A/C as well as a Vance and Hines tuner. Winter project.
FYI, they also have a "Competition Baffle" so if you want a louder sound you can swap out the baffle in a matter of minutes.
I have a Rinehart 2 into 1 on my 2006 FLHX with 88" engine...very nice sound, good performance, very happy that I installed it. I'm a fan of 2 to 1's anyway...
Will never buy anything but a thunderheader. Some seem to have issues with qc but I never have. Doesn't look like all the other 2:1's, imo I like the look. And lastly, can't beat the sound of a thunderheader
I'm not sure why all the complaints either, ive rode about 60,000 give or take a few, miles on two different T H s, never had any issues, along with friends who have had them, ?
Most Rush pipes I have heard sound good at idle but anything above idle with them is so loud they hurt my ears.
Also, if you get pipes that you like but they are too loud or too quiet, you could always change the baffles. Still, it is better to buy the right thing from the get go instead of planning on buying a mistake you will have to fix.
