I stopped by my local dealer Saturday, they had this big demo ride thing going on, sponsored by the MOCO. They sent a big trailer loaded with a crosssection of their product line. The dealerthen takes you on a 25 min. ride using local and highway roads. I was just hangin' around and they asked if I wanted to take the Softail Custom out for a spin. I said, "what the heck."
I never thought I'd say this but when I was on that Softail Custom I couldn't wait for the ride to end. I felt like I was either on a bicycle with a motor or there was a motor attached directly to my butt! The bike was way too light and the "B" motor was so smooth I couldn't tell if it was running. Also, since there was no windshield I couldn't keep my helmet on my head! lol! I was really getting beat up at 65mph. Oh, and I finally heard that 5th gear whine that others have commented about. It was louder than the motor.
The funny thing is that I used to say if I had a magic wand and could change one thing on my SG I wouldchangethe motor to a "B" motor.
NO LONGER! After riding that softail I have realized that the "A" motor is the heart and soul of HD. I've really grown to love it.
Bottom line is THERE IS NOTHING LIKE A BAGGER!!!!!
Once you've experienced the ride you can never go back to anything else!I've always loved my SG but this has brought me to a new enlightenment. Sometimes you begin to take things for granted not realizing and appreciating what you really have.
AMEN!

I rode a good friends Fatboyup to the painter a few weeks ago since he couldn't off on time from work. All I can say is WOW, what a cramped up beautiful piece of........art!!
To each his own, but in the end, I love my bagger!!
I did something very similiar about a month ago. I had ALWAYS wanted a Heritage Softail, but when the wife expressed a desire to ride with me, I beckoned to her wishes and we settled for the Ultra. For 6 months I wrestled with the longing for a Heritage and continually wondered if I had made a mistake. She felt my "uneasyness" in my decisions and invited me to go test drive the Heritage again and if it was truly what I wanted, then that is what I would be coming home with and she would support the decision.
We made the trip to a dealership about an hour away. I, deadset on coming home with a Heritage Softail. Needless to say within MINUTES of riding the Heritage, I, by myself, no outside persuasion what-so-ever, buried the hatchet of ever wanting to own one. Icouldn't get home fast enough.
I love the asthetics of the othermodels, but TO ME nothing rides like an e-glide........not even close.
I have been planning to trade my dyna for a heritage or sg , all the points made here are swaying me towards the sg . I also love the rubber mount motor and was leaning to sg can't decide between black , cobalt blue or black cherry. Thinking black but oh boy , the maint. and scraches.
