Default front tire (Dunlop 408F) wearing considerably faster than rear

So I just checked the tread left on my tires for my '14 Road King. The rear still has about 4/32 left at around 10k miles but the front is right at 2/32. Everyone else says the front always lasts longer but I am getting the opposite.

I checked tire pressure (and do consistently) and both are good. I'm not a hard rider and if anything I feel like I use too much rear brake most of the time.

Any other reason this might happen? Also any recommendations for replacements? I heard the American Elites are a good choice.

The front only has 5/32" new, the rear has 11/32" new. I always get 25k plus on the front. I'm only on my 4th front at 94k on my 09 Ultra. I've been using American Elites.

Here's a link to a 20K mile dual compound tire for $110.

Ignore the warning "For Rear Use Only", that's a misprint

For an oem tire the dunlops wear well...I got 19k on mine and the front still had tread. But I would recommend the Michelin commander II's. They handle MUCH better!!!

Thanks guys. I've heard good things about the michelins as well. I'm guessing I can't go wrong with either the michelins or American Elites.

Bt45,

I am not sure if that's a joke or if I can really use that tire haha

I'm on my 3rd one.

Of course, I also run a Michelin runflat car tire on the rear.

yea, this

but it still sounds like you may be wearing a bit much on the front. 2/32 wouldn't pass inspection in Texas. But it sounds like you may need a new front about the time you will the rear if all else stays the same.

On my stock tires, I got 11K for rears and 18K on the front. but I may have changed the front a tad early. was about to be taking a couple of trips back to back and didn't want to have to worry about it.

Hm. I'm going to just monitor the front then and watch the rate of wear on it and once it gets closed to 1/32 I'll probably just change both out.

I assume that it's probably a bad idea to run different brands/treads on the front and back? Sorry if that's a stupid question

Do this...that will even out the wear.

oh yeah...I am now running Michelin Commander II in the front. It seems to grip better in the turns than the original Dunlop. But, the Michelin is squirrelier on the Southern California grooved freeways than the original Dunlop. I assume that is due to a stickier tread compound. Isn't a problem, but kind of weird.

Default Michelin commander II

I have a '12 Triglide shrine model, and am considering changing to Michelins all the way around, Really considered running a Michelin Commander II rear tire on the front of my Triglide, any thoughts?
