Ok, I've got a 12 Ultra, I'm ready to pull the trigger on a set of apes, probably 12". Main reason is comfort and handling. My issue is that I've got a fairing mounted zumo 660 and I don't want the bars to impede the GPS. So, if you've got the fairing mounted gps, what is your setup? Post piks if possible, thanks.
I have 12.5 Wild one chubby's on my bike and have no issues with the fairing mounted
GPS. With the Harley 12" you need to pull them towards you a little to be able to touch the "Menu" button in the bottom left corner.
I don't understand how apes, 12 or 30" could interfere with your GPS. Am I missing something from your question? I have my 660 on my 13" apes using the HD handlebar mount. Looks a bit out of place but puts the unit much closer and easier to see.
Take a look at my picture in the upper left. Enlarge it.
You'll see the gps bar mounted and as mike said its more accessible and viewable. Clamped to the bar with some chrome gps clamp.
The fairing in my opinion is too far away for my liking.
The issues I'm seeing on anything over 12" is that the risers are going directly In front of the GPS. Pulling the bars back would get them away from the unit but the bars, unless I'm wrong, still go directly in front of the unit. I've already got fairing mounted mirrors so that isn't going to be a problem. As far as mounting the GPS to the bars the primary reason I don't is because #1, I like where it is, #2 I don't want to have to buy a new mounting bracket and fairing cap to cover the hole created by the fairing mount GPS and if I move it I would want to remove the fairing mount as well. Right now I'm leaning towards wild ones Chubbies.
Abated08 I'm digging these bars. Do you have a better pik of them on your bike. I'm on my cell at work so I can't see the pik real well. If you do, and you get a free minute can you send to Mrbuggy2u3@aol.com?
