Default No Oil Pressure

I need some info on what I may be overlooking. I replaced my cam chain tensioners on 2006 Road king with 45,000 miles. I cut pushrods and installed adjustable along with new lifters. Soaked the lifters overnight in oil I did not remove oil pump from cam plate. I installed new o- rings and new gaskets. I followed the torque sequence per the manual.

Is it possible I lost prime to the oil pump? and if so how do I prime it without removal from cam plate. I do not think any material from the retainers went any where as there was less than a 1/16 wear. I probably could have reused them for another 23-30 thousand miles.

any suggestions would be appreciated

Pull the plugs and spin it over for a while. Soaking the lifters in oil doesn't always work.

Well... couple of things.

It takes an incredible amount of time to get oil back up into the rockers so it might take you running the bike 3-4 minutes before you see oil up there.
Scary time, but just let it idle and if everything is back together correctly and there is not blockages in the cam plate, it will eventually pump oil.

Second, if you did not remove the oil pump from the cam plate you did not get a chance to see if your oil pump rotors were in good shape and if the feed port had orange crap stuck in it (which happens).
You should really have a look at that before going further in my opinion; however, if your tensioners have not actually broken up like you mentioned, you're probably good... and just need to run the engine longer before you see oil pressure. Fingers crossed.

How long did you let it run?

Default oil

I just did the same job, and pulled the plugs and hit the starter hoping the oil pressure would start to show, i would hit the starter for about 4-5 seconds and then let sit for a while. I did this 3-4 times, and nothing. SO I put the plugs in and hit the starter, it started right up, and only took about 4-5 seconds before the oil pressure kicked up and the lifter immediately quieted down.. How long did you let it run?

Just replaced the lifters in my Street Glide last year. Soaked them in oil overnight too but I don't know if that really does a lot. They still pumped up within less than a minute. How long did you run it before shutting down?

I only let it run a minute or so. Seeing the idiot light spooked me quite a bit. I took the cam plate and rechecked everything for correctness. I believe it is back together as HD intended. Except the Fueling lifters and adjustable pushrods. Last time the plate was out, I poured oil into the scavenger port, but that was not much oil.
I will try again tomorrow and let it run 5 min to see if the oil pressure comes up. Wish me luck.

lp you make a valuable point about rotor inspection. I was more scared about getting the pump centered again , and I did not think I had oil pressure problems prior to teardown. Hindsight is always twenty/ twenty. If the oil pressure does not come up after a five min idle, I may be going in again and will surely take a harder look at that pump.

It should show oil pressure within 1 minute, I'd check to see that the wire is still attached to the sending unit. I don't think I'd let it idle for more than a minute, check all the o-rings to make sure one didn't get pinched.

5 minutes sounds like a long time to me!
I'd be careful!
