I am about 5'8" on a good day and i would like a lower profile seat for my 06 SG. If anyone has any suggestions for some seat i would greatly appreciate it. tired of tio toeing at stoplights. I found a danny grey short hop 2 up seat. Has anyone used this seat before??
I lowered the front of my 08 SG about an inch and a 1/2 with Progressive drop in springs and that made a huge difference for me. Down side is that the fairing has to come off to do it. For a seat I used a Mustang Low Down seat, lower and narrower. Down side to that is that it is a two up seat.
That front wheel appears to be lifting the entire front of the bike a good bit, so that's going to create a problem. Doesn't look like there's a good way to lower that front end with that wheel without all but eliminating suspension travel. You might want to really think if you want a front wheel that large or not.
A thinner seat would certainly help get you down lower to the ground. There are numerous options to this.
Rear end lowering via shorter shocks or lowering blocks will get you down closer to the ground. But it hurts ride quality and with those bags will also hurt cornering clearance.
I have a Road Glide, but let me tell you about the HD reduced reach seat. I'm 5'9" on a good day but with a 29" inseam. The HDRRS did in fact lower me about 1", but it also pushed me forward about an 1.5". I didn't need or want to go forward, I just wanted to be flat-footed at a stop. I should have ridden the demo longer, but the more I ride it the more the forward push is bothering me. I've been told the cushion will relax a little with time and butt pressure but so far not so much. But, it is winter and I'm not riding as much. Maybe some more saddle time and warmer temperatures will help. Now that I have two seats to play with I might have some custom work done, but I shelled out some serious $$$ for the HD version. Good luck!
seats - mean city cycles, Lepera Maverick, C&C
shocks - ohlins, progressive ultra low, progressive 412's 12"
lepera maverick is the lowest, mean city cycles lowers your own seat how ever much you want it, C&C is about 1/4" higher thant the lepera. its a toss up for me between the c&c and lepera. mean city cycles is probably cheaper
do not get the lowering blocks, progressive 412's 11.5", or any other shocks lower than 12" unless you dont care about ride quality
C&C and motorcyclemetal.com for ohlins both give forum discounts
Call Mean City Cycles and they will fix you up. I love the work they did on mine.
^^^^^^^^^^this. They narrow, and shave it down and replace with memory foam for $135. Narrowing really helps, makes it so your legs aren't going out as far. I'm only 5'6" and super happy with the results. Well worth it.
