Default Decisions...

Well, the time has arrived. Going to the dealer on Saturday for P&A. Bike due to ship in 9 days. Here is what I think I have decided...any last minute input would be great. I think I will leave the exhaust...ready for this...STOCK!!!! I am gonna have rest of Stage 1 done, though. After reading a post on the general forum, I think I will go this route for a while, as I do enjoy the radio, and would hate to make the mistake initially of drowning it out. I like the sounds of V&H ovals, but fear they are too loud to listen to the radio with. Also, going with tour pak rack, backrest, and few FF goodies. Other than that...I finally got a Harley, and am happy just to get it. Always have the option of adding slip-ons later. Also, going to pass on the extended warrantee until my 2 year FW is almost up. Should free up a little $$ in case I see something else I want. Oh...I am going to order my HOGTUNES tonight. I plan on installing myself...is it really that easy? Hope so. Thanks for any input. I am on this site several times a day, and have learned quite a bit from you guys so far. Thanks for unknowingly helping out a newbie to HD.

ultrared,
Yeah, that fairing is a breeze to take off and put back on...3 screws for windshield, 2 more on outside edges about half way between windshield and bottom of fairing and then 2 more on either side of forks. The last 2 are easier if you turn the front wheel all the way to one side for the first and all the way the other way for the second. The speakers are right there once you remove the fairing and are only 3 more screws each. Good luck and congratulations!

sounds like you are on your way....i will tell you though the tour pak may take quite a long time....painted HD parts are 8-12 weeks depending on the order sequence....so you might be driving off with out your tour pak. I had my bike shipped back from vegas about 1 month ago. they damaged the front fender and my dealer told me minimum 12-16 weeks for the fender just because it was a limited production paint scheme....good luck

p.s. i do recomend getting trim rings all the way around, and upgraded floor boards and hand grips, they add personality

You have a good plan so far. The chrome goodies you put on are all your personal preference. There are way to many choices to gather input here. I think you should get the extended warranty when you pickup the bike. You don't want to be caught with your pants down later. I went with the 5 year when I picked it up. I paid cash for the bike and I had them put the chrome front end on and the security system and adjustable rider backrest before I picked it up. Everything else I have done, has been in my garage. Don't pass up the Vance and Hines Oval Slip-Ons. If you like the sound, and want to feel the difference the stage I breather makes, then you are going to have to upgrade the exhaust too. The hogtunes speakers that you are going to install are going to make up for the louder mufflers. Enjoy your new bike and we'll see you on the roads.

Ride on and welcome to bagger world......[8D]

Welcome KD,

Go ahead and get the slipons. The noise is behind you. It's the guy behind you who won't be able to hear his radio. What effects hearing your radio the most is the windshield. Stock windshield is great for listening to radio. Chopped like mine means you can't hear anything at 70 mph. Might as well get the pipes while your getting a discount on your parts (I hope you got a discount).

Sounds like your on your way. Keep us informed.

Smart plan!! Enjoy the bike stock for awhile BEFORE you spend a lot of money on things you might not really need or like. The Stage one A/C would be ok, but don't buy pipes until you really know what you are going to like. I bought SE II's before I should have and don't care much for them. (too Loud for my 60 year old ears).

In any casr, enjoy the the new bike and ride safe!!

Ken
