I think it depends on the color, I've seen some of them that look great. My bike is Vivid Black though and I think glare would be an issue, happy with the stock Matte Black.
2013 street glide, midnight pearl painted inner fairing. One of the best cosmetic mods you can do. I don't get the glare complaint. I've never had any glare issue. Also got rid of the goofy faring mirrors. Put 12 inch apes on with Harley tribal mirrors. Changes the look of the bike. Now it looks the way it should have come from the factory.
Was most of the reason why I bought a SGS rather than the regular SG. I even accepted the stripes on the SGS to get the painted inner. As someone already said - the best cosmetic improvement you can do. JMO
I passed on a bike with a painted inner- the sun glare was murderous.
I would a been a baked potato on a long ride North like to Sturgis
flat black works better for me.
maybe i am over sensitive- I sometimes flip my gas filler cover open to reduce glare off the chrome, I don;t have chrome rings around my gauges or radio
mike
I've debated doing this mod. I've asked several people about glare. They say it's not an issue. I was thinking about glare in the eyes. I never thought about the glare sunburning your face, neck, and under your chin. It's like having one of those big reflectors that were the sunbathing rage in the 80's mounted to your handlebars. My bikes black anyways so I think I'll pass. I'm trying not to have melanoma any sooner.
I want to do this mod as well, but I'm undecided if I want to paint the inner fairing vivd black or color match the fairing. It'll stand out more, if I color match the fairing.
Painted my inner fairing several years ago.Changing bars, so it only made sense to do it then. No glare issues, or any extra sunburn issues. Every year I spend weeks in the Southwest deserts. Lots of sun to be had.Last year Death Valley. Only 105 degrees. No problems with glare at all.Paint has also held up extremely well, still looks like new.Yeah, I'd do it again in a heartbeat.
