I wont claim to know whats legal or not, but I remove all those stickers. I recently traded in a stickerless bike and no one gave it a thought. First thing I do when the bike comes home is pull the stickers and fork reflectors.

I figure if the VIN is stamped in the frame it really should not matter

I took all of them off of mine. On my bike none of the stickers had any vin. numbers on them, just warning labels.
The VIN. number is stamped on the right side of the frame,

20-30 years from now someone is going to to be searching a source for those original stickers when he is restoring the bike that some knucklehead peeled all the stickers off of.

I think maybe those of us in the Northeast leave them on so we have reading material since it's too damn cold to ride in the winter. Currently -2 degrees here in Pa and that.s without the wind chill added. Other than Ca which has all the smog regs, I don't think those stickers legally need to stay, the VIN is stamped. It's just a litigation issue when you carry 9 bowling ***** in the right saddlebag and crash due to uneven weight distribution etc

I am sure those stickers would be in great condition in 30 years if left on.
