Default Reckless fairing fitment

Just received my reckless fairing for my 2002 Road King. Problem is, the brackets do not line up with the windshield brackets very well. It is about 1/4" too wide on each side. Would it be OK to use washers to shim the fairing brackets.? By the way the two tone paint job is fantastic.

Did you remove the rubber windshield grommets and install the metal ones that came with the fairing? I have a Reckless fairing and a Roadking. No shimming was required but it was a little tough to mount it the first time.

Mine is most excellent in fit, function, and style - like me!
We smooth down the road high, wide, and handsome!
Yep on the metal grommets, and always be careful with the rubbers, never force 'em.
Why not call Reckless and talk with them? Nice folk.

Yes I replaced the rubber grommets with the metal ones. The brackets on the fairing are wider than the brackets on my windshield. I really dont want to have to send this back which is why I would like to just shim the fairing brackets away from the fairing so they line up with the metal grommets. Reckless has not gotten back to me yet.
