You could take a better look at labels, better yet if you get a chance take a plant tour and you'll see big machines spitting out parts.

If you are a "traditionalist" and want only a USA made Harley...Harley incorporated imported parts from the beginning...only WW1 caused HD to stop importing electrics from Bosch Germany.
From the late 70's starters, carbs, shocks and front ends were all Japanese manufacture.

Talked to one dealer here and the reason most of the clothing especially the ladies stuff is made off shore, so there is a 18 % duty on it on top of the price deeley sells for. Deeley's contract isn't over till 2017 but it looks like the mother company is making them an offer of some kind. A lot of the people at Deely's in Toronto were given thier notice yesterday that they have 3 months left to work. So I guess the mother company is taking things over soon. We will have to see if they set up distribution centers up here to ship to Canadian dealers.

Sure about that? Canada has many free trade agreements other than NAFTA,especially with corrupt countries that our government gladly forks over our money to in the guise of "foreign aid".Anyways, don't get your hopes up,HD bikes and parts will continue to increase in price and Canadians will continue to get screwed as we always have been, its a tiny, tiny market in an extremely huge land mass-you just gotta pay...

yeah , it would be too weird . even if they could find a location that wasn't being turned into a highrise condo it would probably be too expensive anyway.

Deeley's Hd always had my back. I live in Pa. USA and when I wanted t shirts and hats they sent them to me sometimes for free. Of course My name is Fred Deeley just now the rich one. When I first got my 2014 SGS had a problem with the boom box, called HD tek they transferred me to a VP after a short talk I realized he thought he was talking to the Deeley HD man, we had a good laugh about it. But he ask me who was the dealer I dealt with and sent him all the information in the form of a down load to fix my problem.

Default Clarification

There appears to be a lot of doubt and possible misinformation about the announcement from Harley Davidson on Feb 26, 2015 concerning the termination of the Deeley contract in Canada.
Perhaps the text of the actual press release from HD will clarify some details for those who take the time to dig through it:

HARLEY-DAVIDSON PLANS DIRECT DISTRIBUTION TO INDEPENDENT DEALERS IN CANADA

MILWAUKEE, and VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Feb. 26, 2015 – Harley-Davidson (NYSE:HOG) will transition to a model of direct distribution to independently owned dealers in Canada by July 31, 2017, when the company’s current agreement ends with Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada, the exclusive distributor of Harley-Davidson products in Canada since 1973. The two companies are also in discussions about a possible agreement to move up the transition in Canadian operations to as early as the third quarter of 2015.

As part of its global growth strategy, Harley-Davidson has largely migrated to a globally consistent model of direct distribution to independently owned dealers and, in recent years, has established direct distribution and operations in a number of its major markets including Brazil, Australia, Italy and the Scandinavian countries. Under direct distribution, the company manages sales to dealers, marketing, dealer recruitment and retail capabilities, consumer events and other aspects of its in-market activities, often through wholly-owned subsidiaries. Canada remains among the only markets operating through a third-party distributor arrangement.

“The contributions of the Deeley organization to Harley-Davidson’s customers and the business in Canada have been tremendous, and we have the highest regard for the entire Deeley team,” said Harley-Davidson North America Vice President and Managing Director Mike Kennedy. “Deeley has achieved a level of success that has made Canada one of the largest international Harley-Davidson markets over time. We have made this decision to transition to direct distribution in Canada after long and careful consideration, and solely growing out of our global business strategy. We will work closely with the Deeley organization as we finalize a roadmap for the future and look forward to leveraging the many opportunities to fulfill dreams of personal freedom for customers.”

“We have a long and proud relationship with Harley-Davidson, marked by Deeley’s commitment to excellence – to our associates, customers and retailers – and that will continue to be our priority throughout the transition,” said Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada President and Chief Operating Officer Malcolm Hunter. “It has been a true honour to be part of this business we have all built together. We have accomplished so much and are proud of Deeley’s legacy and our enduring contribution to motorcycling in Canada. The entire Deeley organization will work closely with Harley-Davidson to ensure a seamless transition and ensure that Canadian customers continue to enjoy an outstanding Harley-Davidson product, service and support experience. ”

Don James, co-founder and majority owner of Deeley Harley-Davidson Canada, currently serves as a director on the Harley-Davidson, Inc. board.

In Canada and globally, Harley-Davidson motorcycles and related products are retailed through a network of more than 1,460 independently owned dealerships.

Default Deeley's out as distributor

When I imported my '09 ElectraGlide in 2009 (5 months old) I went through a lot of BS getting it "inspected", and then, after completing re-registration, I had to get it "inspected" again, because Deeley's had convinced the Canadian Government it was not in compliance - the speedometer with a sticker over it's face for kilometers per hour (installed with the Government's approval) had to be changed to a metric one.
I went to Bellingham and got it, half price as Deeley's.
The extra "inspection" went to another dealer - same price, I was just Pis*ed.
On other stuff, the local Deeley guys have been superb. But, I get my stuff sent to a mail droo on the other side of the border .... and if I have enough money to buy another newish 'bike, I have kids living in California and the importation hasle isn't THAT bad...

Mike, I was only referring to the Free Trade Agreement. I did look at some clothing labels. My wife's Harley jacket and vest that were bought at a dealer are made in China, Harley t shirt was made in El Salvador. Harley Davidson is no different from any other company. To compete and to keep their margins up, they out source some (not all) parts overseas.
