Default Tool Kit

Hi.

What are some essential tools I'd want on a long distance solo trip for my 2003 Road King Classic? I know HD makes this:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/store/tool-kit

I'm sure I can put this together for less money, but I'm more concerned about whether this tool kit covers what I'm likely to need for a road-side repair. I don't know myself, because I leave most of the maintenance to the shop.

Thanks.

Think about what you might fix (or tighten up) and go from there. I carry a snap-on m/c kit but cost's $300. always add zip ties and tape. Look at http://www.cruztools.com/ for idea's. The most important thing I carry is a tire repair kit and compressor. Mike

I carry the windzone harley tool kit in my tourpack at all times. Also add zip ties and tape as previous poster mentioned. the kit was $60 on ebay. Comes in a nice little roll up case.

Made up my own kit - put it in a Zipper bag I picked up at WalMart for $5.
3/8" - 5/8" combination wrenches, ratchet screwdriver with 6 diff sizes in handle, 3/8" - 3/4" x 3/8" drive sockets & 3/8" drive ratchet, 10" Crescent & channel locks , and allen whench set. A couple of hose clamps, some pull ties, and electrical tape.
Stay in the bottom of my saddle bag. I've never needed it for mine but have helped out others.

Think about what ya really might do alongside the road. I carry a Cruztlool multi tool, leatherman, 10" crescent, Stop and go tire kit with co2 cartridges, along with some wire ties and duct tape. The rest is on the credit card...

Get a wind zone kit call it a day and go for a ride. Factually you're more likely not to need it than need it.

I would add some bailing wire and duct tape to the kits shown above. I also carry a cheap multi-meter. The things I've used most: cell phone, credit card and extended service plan. Most of the trips all I needed was gas. Have a great trip.

I'd add one of those 1 gallon gas cans that fit in the saddlebag.

I carry the basic tool kit that came with my bike.. Along with tape zip ties and a pressure gauge.. Never needed to use anything while out on the road..did have to unroll everything to help a buddy out one.i guess they served their purpose.
