Anyone using an antenna for satellite radio other than the stock magnetic square? I see Sirius/XM makes a cone shaped one that mounts to the handlebars. Riding the tree lined back roads in New England kills the reception.
I used that antennae with a custom bracket on my tourpak. It gets a good signal when riding solo, but a passenger will block it. This was the location that worked best for me.
I installed that antenna on the right side of the handlebars a couple of weeks ago. Weather hasn't permitted me a chance to try it out, other than a short ride around the neighborhood. Reception was fine, but need a longer ride to make a final judgment.
i have my round flat one stuck to the top of the radio under the fairing, had it on bracket on handle bar for a while works just as well under the fairing
I have the standard little square antenna from a vehicle kit. I mounted mine on the fairing behind the windshield to the right of the vent. It works great so far...
I have the factory antenna mounted on the dash to the right of the vent, opposite the button that opens & closes it. It works great there; I can even get reception in my garage & it is barely noticeable. A highly recommended update to the factory location.
If you're running the internal module on your radio, the factory antenna is the same that comes in the XM Direct car kits. It works okay. if you want to keep the antenna hidden in the faring, find one of the home kit antennas like in the attached picture. When looking at the signal information in the diagnostic menu screen, the signal reception for me goes from ~20% strength with the car antenna to ~35-40% with the home antenna mounted in the same location.
