Default Exhaust leak question ???

I am wondering if I have a exhaust leak where the pipes attach the the heads, what would the bike be doing if this is happening?? Seems like my SG is ideling at lower then normal RPM's, like around 700 to 800 rpms sometimes.

I am out of town with my SG, and I really do not have any tools with me to check the bolts, so I am asking you guys what the bike would do if I had an exhaust leak?

Bob

if you have an exhaust leak you would definatley hear addtional noise from the engine area. AN wasy way to check is to get a can of wd40 and while the bike is at idle, spray on the area where you think the leak is located. If youhit the right spot the pop-pop-pop of the leak will stop momentarily. The wd40 has a fairly high flash point so you should have to worry about a fire but it might make a mess and smell bad for a few minutes. easily washes off with soap/water.

You'll also have backfire through the pipes when ya roll off the throttle.

You should hear it too, almost like a loud ticking sound.

Another way is to close the ends of the pipes and that will make it more noticable and the tick will be much louder. You would also be able to tell if it is the front or the back port.. Find a dealer...

Blow some smoke around the head pipe. If there is a leak, you will know it right away.
