All in all, I liked it, but not worth the hassle. From a performance standpoint though, I would recommend it. If you get your settings right on the MP3 player, the sound is quite good for what it is.
I've seen the Boom windshield system but I'm not sure what you mean by having to unhook everything when you stop. I'm considering this system for my RK, so could you say more on what has to be connected and disconnected? Isn't there just an AUX audio jack that you plug your iPhone or MP3 player into?

You may want to look at this. Had it on my 05 RKC for 9 years with my Garmin Zumo w/ XM Radio as the source. Was very happy with it.

I was referring to the process of plugging in the mp3/phone and finding the music you prefer. I carried my MP3 player in the magnetic tank pouch and would never leave it on the bike if I wasn't in the area. So taking it out of the pouch to power down, unplug the cord and throw the thing in the saddlebag is what I'm referring to. I guess my thing is, I wish it was more integrated like the fairing bikes where you can control from the hand grips and everything stays on the bike (i.e. hard to steal). That's the other thing, unless you have locking windshield mounts, someone can easily walk away with your whole speaker setup...

Oh, ok. That makes sense. I'd be using my iPhone, which goes with me everywhere anyway. I already do the unplug thing with my gps, so I'm used to that. But your comment about getting locking windshield mounts makes a lot of sense. I was wondering about that...

I also looked at the Boom handlebar speakers. In fact every time I'm at the dealer I plug my phone in to listen. I know they are small, so I shouldn't expect super deep bass. But for the cost of the Boom system, I guess I expect better sound than the bar mount kit delivers. Does the windshield mount provide a bigger (fuller) sound? Especially in the bass range?

The J&M MHAS-2008 self amplified speaks are one of the best sounding, no extra wiring to amplifier, easy to install and durable speaker sets you can buy, period. Mine have thousands of hours on them through rain and shine, never skipped a beat. They mount directly to your bar controls with sturdy bolt on brackets, no bar clamps. They come in chrome and black.
