I have tinnitus pretty bad... 20 years around Frac Pumps will do that to you.... If you've never heard a CAT 16v149 without mufflers, there isn't much that sounds better...
I've had Tinnitus ever since a simulated artillery round went off during a war game when I was in the Army Infantry. It flew me on my butt and ringing 24/7 ever sense. I would do anything to get rid of it.
I don't wear ear plugs when I ride, I like the "whole" experience. But, any foam plugs should work.
I just switched from a V&H ProPipe to a SuperTrapp Supermeg -- to save my remaining hearing. If you have prolonged tinnitus after riding, do something. Deafness sucks. I strongly suggest getting an audiogram and then guidance from hearing specialists. Also, earbuds are very hard on ears/hearing, because the sound energy is concentrated and users tend to crank them up. Many specialist worry that millennials will have severe hearing issues all flowing from earbud use.
Here's my take - hit up Academy or Amazon and get some plugs that reduce the high decibel sounds, but don't reduce the lower decibel noises. I'm not sure of the model I have, but they work great. They all but remove the wind buffeting, but not much else. I can hear the radio at the same volume as without the plugs, and the exhaust actually sounds better because the other distractions are gone.
EDITED: I added a link to full block plugs, but you want to get the type that do not reduce low decibel sounds.
I worked several types of disposable foam plugs for years. modest to the custom fitted ones at Laughlin and I'll never go back! Way more comfortable and they don't come loose or fall out during riding like the foam ones occasionally do
i have bad tinnitus. Any hearing center can do custom molded plugs for you. Mine have a 'noise filter' in them so I can hear the bluetooth com with my wife most of the time. I wear them plus earmuffs at the indoor shooting range.
For me the ear plugs make it worse. Mine is more of a humming noise than a ringing. If I plug my ear it gets worse. I wear ear muffs when shooting but nothing when riding.
My full face helmet is the Schuberth C3 Pro. It's a modular and one of the quietest I've found. I sometimes wear the custom fitted plugs as I can have different sound attenuations in them, and they don't stick out and interfere with the helmet speakers.
