I almost always have to load and unload by myself. I ride the bike into the trailer, and when it's time to unload, I sit on the bike and roll it straight out backwards. You can duck walk it while dragging the front brake when the back tire is on the ramp and the front is still in the trailer. But once the front tire gets on the ramp you have to release the front brake and just let it roll on off.
That's exactly what I do as well. After you do this a few times, it's easy. I also use the tongue jack to lift the front of the trailer as someone posted earlier to reduce the threshold angle as to not drag when loading.

How thick is that diamond plate? It turned out nice. I am ready to do something like that and don't want it any thicker than needed....
