Default Limp Mode & Codes

Went on a ride yesterday and when leaving a traffic light, lost power in 1st gear. Hit 2nd gear and power picked up but no cruise control and check engine light was on.

Stopped later to get gas so I switched the bike off. When I started it back up, the engine light was off and the cruise worked the rest of the day as did the engine.

Trouble codes were 1510 (limited performance mode) and 2138 (TGS correlation error Twist Grip Sensor)

Wizards?

What ever caused the problem, fixed it's self. At least you got the codes to know where to start looking. Good luck

I would try removing, and reinstalling the connector at the throttle body. Pull it on/off a couple times to 'clean' the pins in the connector, and maybe a tiny bit of dielectric grease on them. I have heard of this not making a good connection, thus causing limp mode.

Where is the twist grip sensor? I thought the sensor at the grip was the throttle position sensor.

Sensor at grip is the TGS. The TPS is located at the intake manifold.

There was a service bulletin regarding the plug behind the A/C - pin fretting causing limp mode.

My 14 SG went into limp mode for the first time the other day, and it seemed to function the way it's supposed to; after a couple slow starts in first gear I foud that if you rev it before you take off, it shuts right off and there's no further delay while you're getting going in 1st gear. I didn't get any codes so that was the only issue, the slow start if I just took off from limp mode.

You're talking about the EITMS which basically turns rear cylinder into an air pump for cooling.

Limp Mode is entirely different and indicative of an issue. When you are in limp home mode you will know it. The best you can do is putt along the shoulder at about 5mph.

I you have changed your bars and rerouted the TGS cable you need to look for pinch points that could damage the TGS cable. Also if you changed your bars and left the "green plug" in the bars it could now be causing the problem.

I had a similar problem when I went to full lock right turn. Had a pinch point that I need to fix.

I have changed bars but I cut the green connector out and soldered the wires back together. I have always worried about all the wires crammed thru the bars.

My pinch point was at the top of the triple tree outside of the bars. The connectors for my control wire extensions were side by side at the top nut on the triple tree and were pinching the TGS wire.
