Okay so I need to change my clutch basket because the ring gear is shot, does anyone know off hand what size the front and rear nut is? Need to pick up some sockets for them tomorrow...
an impact on the comp can knock the magnets off the rotor...when you start up they destroy the stator= $$$
impact on the clutch hub can destroy the shifter dogs in the tranny= $$$$
how to lock these?
plastic tools are made which will lock your primary.
some of us use wood, a rag or hemp rope....jammed into the primary chain/sprocket.
to lock the motor, take out a spark plug, turn the motor to BDC...insert hemp rope in thru plug hole....turn motor forward it will hit the rope and jam.
all natural fibers are best- no plastic, nylon, polyester

Block of wood to wedge between sprocket and chain.A binding aid so to speak.Anyhow,FWIW,I've used an impact on BOTH of these sprockets (and not only on my current bikes) since the need arose (late 70's) and have never had a problem doing so.
Buy or make yourself a jam bar that works between the clutch hub and compensator. They work great to remove and install/re-torque both of the nuts.
+++1 THE RIGHT WAY TO DO THIS! Don't jam anything into the primary chain, clutch hub or comp, use a JAM BAR. You can make one out of 1/4" T X 1.5" W plate.
Lastly GET A MANUAL. It will show you the right tools to use.
