I have an '11 Road King, mostly stock, and recently I'm noticing that the engine is running rough at idle when hot. This happens at a long traffic light, or, in stop and go traffic. This does not seem to happen when engine running at cooler temps, or, when the outside temp is cooler. It seems to run fine otherwise, and, I do not notice any roughness/engine missing while moving, or, at higher rpms.
HD techs don't have any ideas, just want to start throwing parts at it (coil, plug wires, plugs etc).
Anyone have a similar experience? I welcome any thoughts/ideas to correct this
Do you have any type of tuner on it? If you do, remove it, go back to stock and start there. Make sure your air filter is clean and try a bottle of your favorite gas additive to see if it helps.
Also, do you have ETIMS activated and it's just that that is shutting off the rear cylinder as designed?
It could be the ETIMS, however, what would be the cause of excessive heat to cause this? I have not had this issue in the past, even during the hot south FL summers.
23k miles, Intake and exhaust are stock. Fluids changed in the last 30 days. New sparkplugs, two weeks ago, plug wires and coil check out - ok
I wouldn't think it would be the ETIMS if you've had it to the dealer for this issue and they didn't suggest that. But you do know how to turn it on and off tho. Right? It's probably your intake and cylinders filling up with all the carbon/engine sludge from you breathers pumping into your air filter. The sensors get dirty and give false reading as well. Hows your fuel mileage?

Mine comes on all the time in the heat of the summer. Hot FL & GA summers is the cause of the excessive heat.

Turn your ignition on and the run switch set to run. Roll your throttle forward, and hold it while looking at your cruise control light. If the light flashes green, ETMS is activated. To deactivate it, roll the throttle forward again until the cruise light flashes red. You can also do this with the bike running, if you need to activate/deactivate ETMS.
