Default SG Remorse

OK gang, I need some help.

I took an SG out for a spin this weekend. Gotta say it was a nice ride, and I liked the 6th gear. I plan to do a full day on one soon. What I'm having trouble with, though, is that I love the look of my 06 RK Custom. Is the ride that much better on the SG? Are there any folks out there that made the switch wishing they had stayed with the King? Decisions, decisions....

IF IT WERE ME

.........I'd keep the RK for no other reason than you already have a year paid on it, or even better if it is paid off, and put a Baker 6-speed in and enjoy. Whatever is drawing you to the SG can be done to the RK cheaper than $18-20K for a new one unless you can sell the RKto someone for RETAIL.[sm=outcold.gif]

My $.02 and goodluck in your decision.

Ride better? They are exactly the same other than the SG being a little lower in the rear due to different shocks, if anything your road king being the same suspention as the classic, ultra and others would have the better ride.

I traded my '04 RKCustom on an '06 Street Glide in August of '05 when the SG came out. I had sellers remorse and missed the RK a lot. The SG is an awesome bike...but I like the King better.

So I'm getting a new RKCustom in June.

I like having the option of removing the windsheild...the radio and gagues means nothing to me. I do like the hard bags, but I can add them to the RK if I want.

Again, no disrespect to SG owners...it's an awesome ride.

My last Harley was a 2004 Road King Custom. I sold it and now have a 2006 Street Glide. They both have the identical ride because each comes with 12" rear shocks (despite what Gunrunnner said above). I love the style of both bikes, but one of my reasons for selling the custom was that those saddlebags are pretty small, much smaller than the hard bags of the Street Glide. That's a big deal to me because I do a lot of long distance riding.

The handlebars on the custom come much further back than the Street Glide's bars. I have relatively short arms, so this was a desireable feature for me. I put Chubby's WO575's on my Street Glide to help, but they still don't come back as far as the bars on the custom.

Do you want a stereo? Only you can decide, but the custom doesn't have one and the Street Glide does. Do youprefer a fairing (Street Glide)or a removeable windshield (Custom)? Again, your choice. The custom is somewhat more versatile than the Street Glide due to the removeable windshield. Take the windshield off of the custom and you've got a beautiful Fat Boy with saddlebags.

Your decision is a tough one, and only you can make it. If you do a lot of long distance riding, the Street Glide might be a better choice. If local riding is all that you do, either bike should fit the bill just fine. Either way - good luck!

I had a 02 RK that I just sold this year. I bought a new 07 SG. No regrets here! I was a little sad to see the old gal leave but one trip on the SG was all it took. Hands down better ride! It eats the corners andthe 6/96in combo withthe vivid black paint she can just about fly. I have not heard the whine/clunk or any other negative problems some people are having. One of the best decissions I have made in a lifetime of bad ones.

I went from a RKC to a SG no remorse... I do still miss the look of the RKC. but absolutely no remorse.

The SG gives me another blank canvas.

If the rkc has the same shorter shocks as the SG then the guys are right, the ride will be the same, except for the bigger motor and 6 speed that makes it feel a little different.
