My experience has been that harley juffy stands are about the most stable on the market. If you look underneath your bike when the stand is down, the stand is actually locked into a slot. You can rock it back and forth a couple of inches, but there is little chance the stand is going to collapse and let the bike fall over.

What he said. If the Jiffy Stand is in proper condition you cannot roll the bike off of it.

My 07 RK "kick stand" (who the hell thought of "Jiffy"??) sticks straight out. Even when I purposefully put it in a forward position it "moves itself" to the straight out position (unless on a decent incline). VERY scary - I swear it's gonna keep going and let the bike fall!

If you are worried about your jiffy stand collapsing, get in the habit of giving it a kick forward with your toe after it is deployed......this ensures it is all the way forward and locked.

I remember hearing one of the HD mechanics state the stand is one if not the strongest parts for the bike. As long as it is engaged the bike should NOT ever come off of it. Dunno if that is true... but that is what he said.

Felt strange with the ultra using the stand the first dozen of so times. Weight and balance seemed so much against the kick it seemed to 'want to go over' and move with the kick. After the first dozen or so times using it I don't even think twice about it. Works like a champ and haver had any real concern it wouldn't hold the bike or the bike would move enough to make any attempt at disengaging it.

Didn't change ground clearence...it much more positive in finding the slot in the Jiffy stand...
Before - as I searched for the slot...the feeling of it leaning because I found the slot....
And the feeling that the kickstand is folding and the bike is falling over...seemed real similar...
With the kickstand more forward - I can keep my eye on it - insuring it ain't folding..
JUST SEEMS TO WORK BETTER...just my .02

I have an '07 Ultra and mine scares me a lot. It never seems like it is locked in place. For some reason it just seems like it wants to rock back towards collapsing. Hasn't happened so I guess until it does, I will quit worrying about it.

The day after I bought my Ultra, at the county tag office, I parked the bike on level ground with the stand out (I didn't know at that time about the slot). As I walked away, I heard a crash behind me. Talk about a sick feeling! When I got it home, I found that the nut on top of the stand was slightly loose - about half a flat on the nut. I don't know if that caused it to fall or if I just didn't get it securely in the slot. Either way, I NEVER park it without eyeballing the slot engagement. Live and learn...

I would think that heating the jiffy stand with a torch would have changed the jiffy standsstrengths and is now going to be weaker as the time goes on...Unless you used some type of quick drenching method after you heated it up...
