Hearing about a guy dropping his bike made me remember the kick stand on my 05 Elec. glide stuck straight out...
EverytimeI parked the bike I had a bad feeling as the kickstand didn't seem to figure out what it wanted to do...
I finally removed it and put a torch too it and bent it forward about 20 deg...Now when I park the bike settels back on the kick stand real nice...anyone else modify the stock kick stand...?
Saw a good one...guy parked his bagger on a slight hill and left it in neutral with the bars turned. No one is close to it and we hear a noise and it takes off backwards - does a 180 and reparked BEFORE anyone could get to it...GOOD TO BE LUCKY...!
i put mine down and lean the bike and always wonder if its stable, I am not that convinence its ever stable -honestly. it has about 2-3 inch flex either way when leaning it down.
Does anyone know what material a kickstand is made of? I've worked with spring material for 35 yrs and I'll tell you that the worse thing you can do is to use a torch on it and let it air dry. Not everytime, but alot with silicon material it will snap when you try and bend it. My $.01
My experience has been that harley juffy stands are about the most stable on the market. If you look underneath your bike when the stand is down, the stand is actually locked into a slot. You can rock it back and forth a couple of inches, but there is little chance the stand is going to collapse and let the bike fall over.
Tireater - When you bent your stand, did you actually loose some ground clearance?
