Never give mine a thought. Works every time. The only time it has ever dropped my bike is when I forgot to put it down.[8D]

My 07 RK "kick stand" (who the hell thought of "Jiffy"??) sticks straight out. Even when I purposefully put it in a forward position it "moves itself" to the straight out position (unless on a decent incline). VERY scary - I swear it's gonna keep going and let the bike fall!
Like others have said, the jiffy stand is very stable so have no fear.The stand does only move to straight out on the '07 and maybe other neweryears. The stock stand on my old EVO had a longer range of motion and moved past 90 degrees before locking in. The bike leaned more but the weight of thebike kept thestand full forward unless parked on apretty steep down slope. The bike had tolift up a bit to allow the backwardsweep of the stand to 90 degrees so the bikerarely relied on the stand lock.

The basic design of the stand hasn't changed for a lot of years so I trust it. However,because the new one only swings 90 degrees,I make sure that I leave it in gear all the time and if I have to park on an incline I park headed uphill. It's kinda like belt (jiffy standlock) and suspenders (engine compressionbrake).

I have an 07 Ultra and my stand scares the hell of me also. I compared my jiffy stand with my Sporty and it appears to me the slop between the locking plate and the ridges it locks into are excessive spaced. My sporty locks securely and doesn't seem to want to walk away, but this Ultra stand is sloppy to say the least. Even scared the stealer when I sat on it at the showroom, he thought it was going down when it rolled away. I thought about trying to make some type of shim to close up the gap on locking mechanism.

When the bike is lowered, the degree of angle the bike leans is what the issue is.

... Every time U put the stand down & it moves just a bit more than you're comfortable with, the ole heart kicks up another notch !

...... and whenver it happens, I'm reminded of how for generations the MoCo designed their kickstand so that you could stand up on the bike & kick the motor to start it. If their stands can handle that, they'll hold up under almost any condition ! ..

talk about bringing back an old thread. but====what I did was; I took the cam thingy off the top of the kick stand, this is the piece with the notch that locks the stand in place when it's down, I took it to a machine shop and had a new one made, with the square hole, that slips onto the top of the stand, rotated 10 degrees. now it works just like it's supposed to, but when it's down the end of the kick stand is a couple of inches foward of perpendicular. locks it's self into place with out rolling.
