Default cams and that is all

OK...thought I would go with SE 255 cams....I had already installed night stick mufflers.,
pretty much stock otherwise. Person installing the cams says I should change exaust headers and intake
and install a tuner.
OK..I agree, if this were a 'best of' install...but can not afford all the suggestions. Should I halt the cam
install (I can not afford the exhaust and tuner).
I am just IN for three days storage.

You should get a tuner. One of the cheaper options like a PCV or microtuner. If you can swing Fuelmoto they will provide you with a map.

You don't "need" a header.

It's what I did. Runs perfectly.

i would hold off on the cams for right now and use the money instead to do the rest of the stage 1. you can get a tune and a headpipe for less than what you would pay for the cams/install.

if you don't want to do that, there is absolutely nothing wrong with riding it as is. lots of folks do, lots of folks don't.

Stage 1 before stage 2.... that's why they're numbered that way

Shoot, if you were in Charleston I'd do the cams for nothing... takes a few tools but the hardest part of it is just getting the exhaust off.

And if you're not hearing me, I'm offering. Save you something like 3-400 bucks I would guess? Could afford a proper tuner then maybe.

Good replies. Was thinking....'14s have the updated cams...and restricted exhaust.
My bike has screamin eagle pipes....and that is it. Did not think 255 cams would be that big deal. The person installing
the cams is talking tuner, new de-catted head pipes...etc.
I told them to put a hold on the mods....I had enough saved up for the cams....not for exhaust PLUS tuner.
Thank you for your suggestions.

I have a set of the 2014 cams that we took out of a buds bike. About 1000 miles of use. He wants 50 for em plus whatever the usps wants to ship, should be around 10 bucks. If you're short i'll send 'em and you can pay when you're flush.

I picked up a set of 255s used from a forum member. $125. I see power commander 5's sell in the classifieds for $250 or so. I've saved tons buying used from the classifieds. You have to factor in bearings and lifters if you have many miles on the bike. Gaskets and o rings too. If not removing the rocker boxes, adjustable push rods. A dyno tune to correct fueling, which aren't cheap either. It adds up quick. I refuse to add everything up, I don't wanna know a total number.

I agree a stage 1 should be the first thing you do. If for any reason, to reduce the heat! Night and day difference. At 90mph I could feel the heat burning my leg. After the true duals, ahhh..... cool. My bike ran a lot better too. Crisper throttle response, and added enough power to burn the clutch out (42k miles probably due anyways). Just food for thought.

Save your money and buy a Power Vision. Then when you have moola for cam buy a cam. If you buy the power vision from fuel moto he will give you the tune. If you buy a cam from S&S you can download a tune from them for your bike. Or if you have a friend with a power vision they can buy the new license and tune your bike for the license fee....

The first thing on the list should be a decent tuner. Then ya can start adding a/c, header, cams... Oh and friends don't let friends run 255s in 103+.
