Default ABS...Is it worth it?

Long story short.. I am 66.Last year I had hand surgery and figured my riding days (after 35+ years) were over. Sold my beloved '09 FLHR. However, I really miss it, so I went to the local dealer, and behold, being unloaded is a '15 FLHR, Black. Just what I want but w/o ABS. So is it worth having as a safety feature, or is it something that may never be used, as I have been stopping HDs for many years without ABS, Just looking for your 2 cents

Well worth it.

Most accidents happen when something unexpected happens and you grab a handful or footfull of brakes and lock them up.

"Layin er down" is not the fastest way to stop.

Also, re-sale value down the road will be higher.....many will probably not want a bike without it.

I would not own a bagger without ABS.

Had it on my 11 Heritage, don't have it on the 13 RG. Won't go without it again. To me it's kind of like a concealed carry permit - would much rather have it and not need it, than need it and not have it.

[QUOTE= I have been stopping HDs for many years without ABS.[/QUOTE]

That's kind of how I figured it when I bought mine. There are several videos on you tube. Some that show two police officers 1 with abs, 1 without abs. The one without the ABS stopped quicker. The one with abs stopped better on sand, wet roads etc. ABS only works when bike is straight up not on a curve or anything. For many years we have used bikes with no ABS, seems like now some people assume you can't ride if you don't have ABS.
Just my $.02

Just like Airfuel said most just panic and grab handful of breaks and slam the rear brakes.. Some are new riders and only know ABS... others have been riding 30+ years. When there were no ABS breaks.

I will never own a touring bike with out ABS, In fact I sold my 2007 SG because off that reason. To this day I regret selling my street glide until In remember it does no have ABS.
It is that good in all riding

In a word. Yes.

If you only "NEED" it once, and it saves your ***, it's WELL worth it.

Thanks to all for confirming what I was thinking. That new bike being unloaded was sweet, but I'll wait for one w/ABS

I'm a believer in ABS - I think it's a great thing to have on a bike
