Does anyone have the front Hogtune speakers installedwithout the amp? I don't want to purchase the amp if I don't have to

Ricaroo I only have the speakers installed...without the amp. I did the mod before I brought the bike home so I can't compare the speakers to the originals. I do not have a problem hearing the radio and I have some pretty loud pipes...imo the amp is not needed. Besides, you can always add it in the future if you feel you need to.

My bud has replaced his 07 Ultra stocks with the HogTunes and no amp. I can say .... that I really can't tell the difference between those speakers and my stock ones. If there is a difference it is probably on the low end but with the pipes... well that will drown it out a bit.

After we put in his speakers I kinda said to myself... that seems like a waste of $$$ for the speakers as no real noticeable difference was heard by me nor really by him. I would guess those speakers would make a huge difference with the amp to go with 'em.

just my $0.02

I installed Hogtunes without the added amp a couple of months after buying my '07 SG, and I noticed an immediate difference in sound quality. For me, the added amp isn't necessary, and the reports of its worth is contradictory among people who own them. Some say they make a small difference, some say not. With 48w/channel vs. 40w for stock, I doubt if it'll be worth the $200+ added cost.

A friend owns an '06 SG with the same HK stereo, and two weeks ago we swapped bikes. I couldn't believe how emaciated his speakers sounded, and when I got back on my bike I was amazed by the quality difference. I would say it is a $100 well spent.

Just a month or so ago I installed all four HogTunes speakers in my '06 Ultra without the amp and now that I've had a chance to get out on the road with them, I've noticed a considerable difference in sound quality. While I wouldn't go so far as to say that the diff is 'night and day,' its definitely significant; especially on the road. I have SE slip-ons and I never need to turn the volume up more than half way, and the sound is never distorted from wind noise like I noticed with my OEM speakers.

I had the amp sold it --- not enough of a difference to justify the expense---removed the hog tunes speakers as well---went a totally different route with good quality car speakers for half the price.

I would do the speakers first and then the amp if you think you need it. I thought there was a definite difference with just the speakers - more volume and clarity, I just needed more bass. So I installed the amp about a month ago and it gave me everything I needed. The MaxxBass circuitry in the amp resally boosts the low end. Overall the sound is much fuller - especially at speed on the highway. I am very happy with the upgrades. Pez is great to deal with as well. '06 SG.
