Thanks for the great advice guys! Here's the full story. I found an 04 RK police model for $14,250. I really like the looks of it! I'm worried about the engine since it was probably broke in just putting around town. A guy I know talked me out of it, he has owned around 5 Harleys. By the time you add a 3 yr warranty for $850 I've got a used $15,100 bike with 3600 miles. The way I see it for another $2200 I've got a new bike.
Thanks again! I'm really learning alot from this board. BTW, this will be my first Harley.
i paid $19,000 something "out the door" i did include the extra warrenty so i have a full 7yrs now and also go the tire hazard warrenty also. the way i look at it for the next 7 yrs this bike is covered from "bumper to bumper"
i was looking at used bikes and saw the the price between the used and the new was only a couple of thousand off. so why not look for a new one? to have the feeling of "i have a brand new harley in the garage right now (that is paid off, i didnt finance cash out the door) is a great feeling.
no regrets
I paid cash for my bike as well. Could have bought a new one for a bit more. I had the cash back then. I went with used because it was the bikeI wanted. Felt it was a good deal. And it had 770 miles on it. It was exactly what I wanted, and the dealersI went to (from here in nm and tx, az and co) didn't have this model, in this color, on hand. I didn't want to wait. I waited 33 years, andI didn't want to wait for one to be delivered. I have no regrets.
I traded my Honda SHadow in for $2650. My purchase price with taxes, freight the whole nine yards with lo-jack was $16,770.
Of course, then I went out and bought a Power Commander, slip ons, chrome bag rails, hard bag inserts, a windshield bag, the passenger backrest and luggage rack, chrome passenger footrest supports and covers, and a few other goodies.
