I'd pull the outer fairing and try and get to the right hand control plug and make sure the pins are all set and they are in the right place. Next thing would be to check the wires for the cruise to make sure they are not pinched or broken. Are the wires run internally?

Yes, the wires are inside the bars.

well, I ended up working until 10pm last night, so I didn't get a chance to pull anything apart, BUT.... the cruise DID work twice this morning during my 75 mile commute to work. Once right away after leaving the house and once right before I got to the office. ...seemingly random.

Pinched wire or a wire that got skinned when you did the work. Time to take it back apart.

UPDATE: someone suggested to me that then green connector for the TBW inside the bars is often damaged when pulling it through the bars. SO... last night I removed that connector and hard wired that. ...went for a ride and the cruise was working, but was very touchy... It was obviously related to the brake light switch. I couldn't get the cruise to work at all prior though, so I'm leaning toward that green connector being related as well. (or maybe it's just the work I put into hardwiring that talking).

So, I either had both the issues OR maybe I had the green plug issue and while soldering those together and letting the brake lever hang, the switch became touchy Or maybe the touchy switch was there from before but wasn't noticeable because of the green plug issue.

Regardless, I could make cruise work this morning on the way to work, BUT any little bump would disengage that brake light switch and I'd have to reset cruise.

I'm wondering if I just should clean out the brake lever area/switch real good or just pop a new brake light switch in there.

UPDATE #2: Bought the brake light switch from HD and installed it Friday night. In holding the new switch up to the old one, there's a little plastic nipple on the new one that had broken off of the old. SO, the BLS worked fine at stop in the garage, but w/engine vibration and road bumps, it became a problem.

Anyway... new BLS installed and TBW hardwired and all is good as new now.

Moral of this story: "a little nipple can make all the difference."
