This winter, I powdercoated 95% of my chrome, black, and just got it all back together and rode for the first time on Sunday afternoon. Everything seems great EXCEPT the cruise control.
The red "cruise indicator" light on the dash lights up when the dash switch is activated, BUT the thumb "Set" switch doesn't work. Cruise never sets.
Any ideas? Places to start? I ride about 1200 miles a week for work, much of it hwy, so cruise is pretty important to me, unfortunately.
First thing I'd check is the brake light switch. Very common for this switch to get broken during reassembly of the hand control housing and master cylinder/brake lever.
Did you take the bars off when you powder coated? My guess would be a pin in the plug. It can only be so meany things and we don't know what all you tore apart on the bike.
That's a good question because the brake switches are the culprit almost always. Could have a pinched wire in the hand controls. I have seen times when my cruise wouldn't set and I cut the switch off and hit the rear brakes then tried to set cruise and it worked fine. Let us know what you find.
yes, I took the bars/controls off to powder coat the bars and I took apart and the rear brake pedal as well. Basically, I took off all chrome except for the cylinder heads.
