Default cruise Control Deactivates

O5 Ultra Classic. Once I set the cruise it will remin on until I hit the slightest and I mean slightest bump then the cruise turns off. With lots of tinker I have found that just the slightest touch of the front brake will turn cruise off. I can hold the brake lever forward against the stop and the cruise will remain on even over bumps in the road. Any help would be greatly appreicated.

You might want to check the rear brake light switch, my bike did that and shortly after the rear switch went bad and after replacing it my cruise control problem went away.

I had a similiar problem when I reinstalled my grips after switching bars. Turns out when I installed the right hand grip/brake lever sections, I didn't have the parts on perfectly, and the contact switch for the lever wasn't making contact sufficiently. All I had to do was loosen the lever assembly, and checked that contact with the switch was correct. Works perfectly now.

Harley cruise or for that matter any cruise system deactivates when the brakes are applied, your front brake switch may be to sensitive or your master cylinder may be sticky not allowing the lever to return to it stop. Trouble is definitely there tho.

I swapped grips without shimming the front brake lever and broke the tit off the front brake switch, causing the exact problem you are describing.

Wow, thanks guys for the feed back. I just changed grips over the winter months. Had a knee replacement and rode bike for the 1st time a few days ago. I will check out the right grip assemble to make sure every thing is OK.

Amazing what you can find out from guys having the same issue. I did find that the tit was broken off the switch. Will replace ASAP. This is a great website

Thanks

I do not know if this fits your situation but I have found if you do not have the cables adjusted properly mostly the return cable this will cause the same problem when you hit a bump. If the above recommendations do not work try putting a little slack in your return cable. I ran across this problem about 8 years ago on my 02 Ultra.
