Is anyone running Amsoil 60 wt in their ultra classic ? Is there any real benefit over the 20w-50 ?
I had some oil psi issues back on my 07 and was going to run 60 wt. Both the parts guy and the shop tech highly did not recommend running it in a modern TC. That was used on the shovels and pans. The TC clearances are much tighter and unless you live in the desert not to do it.
In cold weather the oil would be so thick if it did start you may starve some areas of oil because its to thick to go thru all the galleys.
You may get by with a 20-60 oil but 20-50 is as good as it gets for the TC.

Please keep in mind that the oil viscosity returns to its thinnest (low number) at cold/cool temps. It never reaches its thickest (high number) until the added molecules expand with heat to thicken the oil. My $0.02.

Thats true, thats why I said he may get by with 20-60 and not the straight 60.
i know you didn't ask about it, but here in la (where it gets hotter than snot) i started running the redline 20-60. when it gets really hot, the 20-50 would lose some oil pressure, whereas with the 20-60, the oil pressure stays a little higher. it does still drop some when it's really hot, but not as much.
might have to look into the napa.
and motorcycle specific oil is not really required with the tc. it doesn't share a sump with the clutch which is what the main concern is (clutch slippage).
I run 20-50 RP Synthetic automotive oil and not the RP motorcycle oil. Been doing that since 10,000 miles. I have over 60,000 miles now and the bike never uses a drop of oil between 7,500 mile oil changes. After just making a 3,000 mile trip to the east coast running interstate, not a drop of oil used. I'm sold on the stuff.
