I have been facing a problem when on 3rd gear and only during acceleration. Checking the forum for some answers, have noticed that most have the problem on low RPM's, yet could not come across anything on higher RPM's.
I ride an 08 Ultra Classic Electra Glide and have gone stage 2 with it. Pipes are Monster Ovals, Upgraded Cams, Upgraded Air Filter and a fuel pack is also installed on the bike. I am starting to believe in Gremlins at this stage.
Any thoughts on what the problem could be is highly appreciated.
What rpm are you getting this at? Was any of the stage 2 stuff done just recently?
My earlier reply was sent through a smart phone, so couldn't elaborate more. Problem with the 3rd gear is that it does not matter on what speed I am riding, and what ever the RPM is (low or high), once I start accelerating, the bikes hits a few jerks (on and off) till I change gears up or down. It almost makes it impossible to ride on the 3rd gear Geezer Glider.
Have had the mechanic look at it a few times now and nothing has improved. I need to take it back them and tell them to check for a few things and quite frankly, I am lost at what I should tell them the probable causes are. Same Mechanic is the one that did the stage 2 for me and the mapping on the bike.
If it happens in only third gear, I would suggest looking at the tranny. If it was in third & up through the gears (3rd, 4th, 5th) I would look at the spark plugs. Good luck
I have heard of this when there was a ECM or Tuner problem. You mentioned mapping, why type of Tuner did you have installed?
Have you tried disconnecting or re-flash original program back to the ECM and see if the problem continues. The bike overall may not run so good during this test but that might isolate the problem.

Thanks Toby for the input. Will have him take a look at the Tranny first thing tomorrow and update on here accordingly. Much appreciated

I am not sure what the exact Tuner type is, but I believe it's a twin tech. I'll get more information on this and post it on here in a couple of hours

After confirming, The tuner is a Daytona Twin Tec II.
I would have your mechanic take a good look at the dog teeth on the 3rd counter gear and make sure the corners of the teeth are not rounded. It sounds like it is hopping in and out of gear.
