Have you had any luck finding the cause of your speedo/dieing problem? My bike has the exact same issue. I've replaced the VSS & the IAC but the problem is still occurring, any advice?
Step #2.) Find something that all of these Circuits have in common. Ex: Fuse, Ground(s), Wire Routing (physical locations), Wiring Harness Multi-wire Connector(s), Electronic Module(s), Relay(s), etc.

Check your wiring. I had this problem on my 2001 a couple of years ago. Replaced the VSS, it didn't help. I pulled the fairing and started checking electrical connections. I found some corrosion on one of the molex connectors. Cleaned it up with some QED Contact Cleaner, that solved the problem.
