Hi All, I’m thinking about making my 06 FLHRI a little louder and was curious if there are any slip-ons I could use that would not require a remap or new intake? Has anyone installed only new mufflers on their fuel injected RK? I was thinking about installing the Vance and Hines slip-ons with no remap (or fuel pack) or intake and see how she ran. Thoughts?
Just going with the slip-ons can give you a different sound, and according to my dealer will not require a remap if you don't add a high-flow intake. With the slip-ons only, you are not significantly changing the amount of air moving through the engine, so the air/fuel ratio will not be modified much. There are lots of good choices out there - many folks like the V&H Oval Slip-ons, a very high quality muffler with deep but not obnoxious sound. Another, quieter, choice would be one of the SE mufflers from HD. I started with just the V&H mufflers, and the bike performed well without the high-flow intake or remap. I'm now running the SE Street Performance Touring Mufflers (an '07 part) with the SE Intake and V&H FuelPak, which has been a good combination for me.
A buddy of mine has a set of the Rhinehart slipons and they sound great. A really deep and low sound. They are kinda pricey for slipons but definately look and sound great.
Don't forget about the Rush slip ons with different size baffles. I installed mine last week and they are nice. I am going to go from a 2.25 bafle to a 1.75 because I am getting a little popping on deceleration and they are way to load for me. Great sound and quality.
i have the rush 1.75 slip/ons on my 00 electra glide classic
(started out with the 2.5 and had some "popping" when
letting off the throttle) the rush slip/on's have fastners already
welded to the muffler and are easy to install and have a
nice deep sound
I went with the V&H Ovals, and later the Stage-1 & Fuelpak. The ovals have a very nice deep sound and are kinda in the middle range for loudness, IMHO. Many like the Supertrapps, as well.
