Default 2009 Electraglide shuts down?????

My wife and I was riding and without any hesitation the bike just dies???I had no codes or engine lights just dead. It would not start back. I pulled the 40 amp main and everything reset and it started right back up?? Ran great for 2 months and I was riding through town and it died again. I reset it again it started and I headed home. Almost home it did it again and would not start back?? I put it on a trailer and got it home and after it cooled down it started?? No codes and faults??? I thought at first it may be the TPS but I took it to the local HD dealer and they randomlly saw a huge spike in the voltage. 15.3v to 15.7v very randomlly. They said I needed a Voltage Regulator? The spikes are what is shutting it down for protection?? do you agree??

Thank you for your help!

Don't know if that causes a shutdown with no codes but it would concern me that voltage spikes that high. The regulator should not let voltage get that high. Spikes can cause all kinds of electrical failure.

I've never heard of that before with the voltage spikes. Usually whenthese VRs fail, it is a intermittent loss of power. So a spike is unusual, and I would think if HD engineered an auto-shutdown for a voltage spike it would have includeda code.

Make sure your batter terminals and ground is tight and clean.

One think I might suggest is if you have an inline EFI management device, like a PowerCommander, PC-V, or Fuelpak, then unplug both sides, and reconnected the connectors. Maybe even use some dielectric grease on them. I had a Powercommander that drove me crazy with a similar condition until it finaly failed and since then no problems with the replacement Powervision.
