Default Catalytic Converter (Again)

Guys I know this one has been beat to death but I can't find anything searching. I'm sorry. Getting ready to decat the pipes on my '14 SGS. I'm leaving the intake and everything else stock. I've had a couple of HD techs tell me I don't need to have the ECU flashed as long as I leave the intake stock, can anyone confirm this with their experience. I don't want to mess with doing any other upgrades, just want to get rid of the heat and exhaust restriction. Thanks!

Thats correct, and if/when you do replace the air cleaner, dont waste your money on the dealer download. Much better options for nearly the same money.

The dealer told me if you decat then you have to retune because of difference in backpressure. You just don't know who to believe!

I wouldn't think that removing the catalytic converter would change the back pressure, as the restriction should be the breather and mufflers on a stock bike. if the cat was the restriction a stage one would not be possible unless you removed it.

you probably will not cause any damage by just removing the cat, you will have a better running bike that runs cooler with a tune/tuner. The dealer download will show an improvement in how it runs, and reduce the heat too , but a good tuner isn't much more and leaves your options open in case you change your mindlater on mods like slip ons or intakes

Since he's staying stock removing only cat theres no need for a tuner he needs to download maps on when theres RC componants Xcelerator fuel management system that always monitors engines function and load to ensure AFR is akways correct for best perf in all cond with better breathing aftermarket slipons and aftermarket AC.

Its a plug & play system tat takes litterally 10 mins to install, just plugs into the bikes main wiring harness and thats it.

I 1st read about it a while back when reading a rvu/test that some bike mag did on it really liking how well it worked for a plug & play fuel management system stating it would even work with mild perf cams too though mfg dost state that.

I am saving up to buy it for my 09 ,heres a link and info to it.

BTW,heres info on the latest version from their website:

(We just road tested our RCX-Celerator for the 2014-2015 HD Touring models. It appears that we will be launching this item in June.)

That RCX unit is a pricy little booger ain't it? LOL I know nothing is ever cheap on a Harley, but the bike's performance is just fine as is. Just want to lose the heat from the cat and I can tell she's trying to exhale but it just ain't easy with that thing in the way.

Cut it, remove it and weld it back together. If you want a cheaper more cooler running vehicle then get the Exieds (Spelling Im sure is wrong) they go in line with the O2 sensors for about a 100 bucks if IIRC. Otherwise just cut remove and weld and ride on. Some say you can use a paddle bit but having mine out I can't see how they get it all out.

drill it out and then put some xieds on the bike and it will run fine. now if you are doing cams or other engine work you are going to need a real tuner. paddle bit will get it all out ,no problem. i've drilled out many cats on the new bikes now. i use a dental mirror to make sure i get it all and there is no problem getting it.
